Albums and the Christmas build up

So, November's always a quiet time for actual pictures, although it does give a great opportunity to catch up with some non-client work like these Autumn frost pictures. I've been avoiding adding non wedding and portrait work up until now (not that I've had time for much this summer), but hopefully with this new page I'll be able to share a lot more content including some of my Georgia trip earlier in the year.

Back at my desk though, there's plenty of work going on as couples from my summer weddings and who've had several months of enjoying the pictures on their computers start to consider how they want their final wedding albums to end up. Album work can actually end up being one of the most time consuming parts of my job but it really is so much more satisfying to be able to present clients with a beautiful, co-ordinated album instead of a DVD of jpegs.

Here are few spreads from Tom and Lucie's that I've been working on this week. Still just in the drafting stage for now so it's a bit rough around the edges in places but waiting for their feedback on the general layout before we move onto the next stage.

Just one last London visit due before Christmas so do get in touch soon if you would like to have a design made to arrive before the 25th.

Hamish and Raphaelle previews

A few early previews from Hamish and Raphaelle's Camden wedding last weekend with formal photos taken in Waterlow Park just as the sun was setting.

As French and New-Zealander ex-pats, Hamish and Raphaelle's was a relatively small wedding with a quick ceremony at Camden Town Hall followed by an intimate reception at The Prince Albert in Camden. We managed to get some perfect light in at nearby Waterlow park for some pictures. Many more to come, but a quick preview for now:

Autumn workshop

Autumn’s here and, apart from a few albums designs underway, the summer wedding season’s finally done. At the airport now on my way to Hamish and Raphaelle’s London wedding now and hoping the leaves in Waterlow Park will put on a good show for us tomorrow.

Sadly I’ve got a couple of client’s from the summer who requested not to have their pictures publicly available, nor even named in one case, so no highlights from them online. Instead though, here’s a few pics from the workshop I was at in Gothenburg today, courtesy of Damian McGillicuddy. I can’t take credit for these myself as most of these were Damian’s own arrangements, but it was a great insight into his approach to location shooting and use of lighting. In this case, we were in the Eriksberg conference centre, a gorgeous old loading warehouse still with a lot of the old machinery in place. I’ve been affiliated with the SWPP who arrange these seminars for a few years now, but this is the first time they’ve been over in Gothenburg (actually that’s a lie. They came over earlier in the year while I was shooting in London). Very pleased to see some familiar faces from the convention out in my adoptive second home.

Erwin and Audrey

Nearly done with the last of the summer weddings!

Erwin and Audrey's Dutch wedding is now online, viewable here, but here's a (edit- strangely poor quality... try the link for a better version).. highlights montage:

Erwin and Audrey were married at Restaurant Lingehoeve in Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands on 17th August 2012. The Restaurant itself was actually an old coaching inn with a wedding license right on the banks of a very Dutch canal which gave an old world feel to this small but beautifully intimate wedding. They had two consecutive ceremonies, one civil and one religious right after each other and the location meant that the party could simply roll out into drinks and dinner.

This was a very interesting wedding to shoot as Erwin has a muscular dystrophy which meant very limited mobility in terms of formal shots. Combined with one of the hottest days of the year in which the only even-lighted shade was being taken up by picnicking cyclists this proved something of a challenge but we found some good accessible spots and managed to get something of the intimacy of their relationship.

The heat also led to a question I've never come across before: what should a photographer do should the groom faint on completion of his vows... capture the moment... or not... (suffice to say I didn't...which is possibly a shame as he was of course absolutely fine, and it's definitely a moment that everyone will remember!)

John and Sara's now up

Still working through the backlog of a crazy August, but John and Sara's are now up online with an intro montage and some sample album spreads below. Erwin and Audrey's Dutch wedding should be coming soon and then two more English ones.

Quick intro montage here includes the music some friends of the couple played after before their vows.

John and Sara were married at Cafe Oceanen in Majorna, Gothenburg on 4th August 2012.
I much prefer the Swedish tradition of bride and groom arriving at a ceremony together. Instead of the English tradition where photographs take place during the reception with a real sense of time pressure, I was able to take an hour or so with John and Sara to visit a few locations in the area from the traditional Majorna streets to some edgy grafitti backdrop via some views of the harbour and even a flea market on our way.

Like the formal shoot, the ceremony and reception were wonderfully laid back with the emphasis on everyone  having a good time of it. And of course, like all good Swedish weddings, there’s the usual flood of speeches and tributes and some first rate dancing to finish.
